Time to start down the rabbit hole and dip my feet into fountain pen collecting. I started out with a Pilot Metropolitan and wanted to understand what the next step would be. I found The Pen Addict through another one of Myke Hurley’s podcasts (Cortex) and Brad Dowdy posted a ‘Top 5 Fountain Pens Under $50’ <https://www.penaddict.com/top-5-pens> Being the completionist that I am, I decided to start trying new pens on that list and that led me to the cute little German-made Kaweco Classic Sport.
The Kaweco Sport is just an adorable little pen that fits in the pocket and catches the eye when you bust out this little sucker when the meal is over aqnd you want to sign the bill in style! I got a medium nib and the navy body. I thought it needed a clip and ordered a silver clip which looked terrible with a gold colored nib… I then determined it didn’t need a clip after all.
The pen writes fine. It’s a little scratchy for my taste and definitely lost out to my Metropolitan whenever I went to write something longer than adding a tip to the bill. Along with the nib being a little scratchy, I’ve also found the body to be slightly uncomftable in the hand. This could be becuase im 6 foot 5 with bigger hands and I’m using a cute ‘little pen that could’. I’m definitely ready to wrap this review up, becuase this is the longest I’ve written with it.
Another detractor for this little guy is the teeny-tiny convertor. Big hands and itty-bitty plunger don’t go well together.
I’m going to stop hating on the oor little fella and end on a high note. The Kaweco SPort still finds it’s way in my rtation when I need to pack a little field notebook and head to the gorcery store. It’s fun and satisfying to cross off items as I get them and I still lik to slide it in my pocket when I go out to eat.
